SERVICE BULLETIN

Replacement of oil filter for ROTAX® Engine Type 912 iS, 912 and 914 (Series)

MANDATORY
This Service Bulletin applies to a limited range of 912iS, 912, and 914 (Series) engines, as well as oil filter part number 825016 spare parts produced from June 8th, 2017 to October 31st, 2017 with a production date code from 10/17 up to 38/17. Engines that have received replacement oil filters following maintenance, repair or overhaul after June 8th 2017 are also affected.

NOTE: This bulletin explains the range of oil filters to be inspected, and how any oil filters found in the affected range are to be replaced with new. This bulletin does not directly apply to any engines or spare parts produced before June 8th, 2017.

What is this Service Bulletin about and how does it affect me?

Due to deviations in the manufacturing process of the oil filter’s gasket, cracks in the gasket may have occurred. In rare cases, these deficiencies might lead to oil leakage in the area of the oil filter gasket.

If your engine falls within the affected S/N range listed within the bulletin, an inspection and/or replacement of the oil filter is necessary.

If your engine doesn’t fall within the S/N range listed within this Service Bulletin, your engine may still be affected if the oil filter has been replaced after June 8th,
2017.

When must the inspection take place if my engine is affected?

  • Immediately, on undelivered engines / spare parts.
  • Before the initial installation in an aircraft and/or the initial start-up thereafter.
  • Before next flight: At leakage in the area of the oil filter, oil pressure below limits or unusual engine operating behaviour.
  • If there is no leakage visible, carry out this replacement on installed engines listed in section 1.1), according to the instructions in section 3) at the next ROTAX® scheduled maintenance event or within the next 25 hours of operation, but not later than 200 days from the issue date of this Service Bulletin.

What must be done if my engine is affected?

If your engine falls within the affected S/N range listed within the bulletin OR had the oil filter replaced after June 8th 2017, a visual inspection of the oil filter must be accomplished following the instructions found within the Service Bulletin.

Check if Production date code of the oil filter falls within the scope of this bulletin...
