What's this about?

ROTAX® has discovered that due to deviations in the manufacturing process, a partial fracture of the carburetor jet needle circlip may occur. This fracture might lead to a crack / total fracture of the circlip which in consequence may lead to a malfunction of the carburetor. Possible effects might be rough engine running or an unusual engine operating behavior.


How does this affect me?

If your aircraft is equipped with a 912 or 914 (series) ROTAX® aircraft engine (912 UL, 912 ULS, 912A, 912F, 912S, 914 UL or 914F) you should familiarize yourself and/or have your aircraft maintenance provider become familiar with the contents of this service bulletin.

If your engine or its carburetors are within the limited serial number scope of this bulletin, then you must carry out the instructions in the bulletin within 25 hours of operation or at latest 31-Jul-2020 (Note: in the case of uninstalled engines / spare parts, the bulletin instructions should be effected immediately).

The maintenance procedure involves partially disassembling the affected carburetor(s) and replacing a circlip and an o-ring. On 914 (series) engines, fuel hose assembly gasket rings are also replaced.


What do I do about it?

This bulletin affects a limited range of engine serial numbers, and also a limited range of carburetor serial numbers. Review the contents of this Service Bulletin to determine if your engine is in the serial number range affected.

Also, if you have spare parts carburetors in stock, or if your engine's carburetors have ever been replaced (or if you cannot be sure that they are original to your engine) then you must also check your carburetor serial numbers to determine if one or more of them is in the serial range of affected carburetors.
