NEW SERVICE BULLETIN:

Exchange of floats (pair) on ROTAX® Engine Type 912 and 914 (Series) and 2-stroke (series)

SB-912-074 / SB-914-056

SB-912-074UL / SB-914-056UL / SB-2ST-004

What's this about?

Rotax has released a new MANDATORY Service Bulletin which applies to a limited range of 912 and 914 (series) and two-stroke (series) engines, as well as a limited range of carburetors and spare parts.

How does this affect me?

If your aircraft is equipped with a ROTAX® 912 or 914 (series) or a 2-stroke (series) engine, it may be affected by this service bulletin. Due to a deviation in the manufacturing process some floats of part no. 861185 and part no. 861188 could gain more weight. This leads to a loss of float buoyancy and wrong regulation of the fuel in the float chamber. Possible effects may be a rough running engine, especially at low speeds and under some circumstances loss of performance and/or fuel leakage in the area of the carburetor. Above mentioned floats must be replaced with floats part number 861189.

New style float: part no. 861189

What do I do about it?

Download this bulletin. You and/or your maintenance provider should review the bulletin carefully to determine whether or not you have an engine, carburetor, or any spare parts floats which may be affected. If you do, then you need to follow the instructions given in this Service Bulletin. Refer to the UL bulletin SB-912-074UL / SB-914-056UL / SB-2ST-004 if you have a UL (non-certified) engine, and refer to the certified bulletin SB-912-074 / SB-914-056 if you have a certified engine. If you have a UL engine, you will also need to download the certified bulletin, as it contains the full instructions and appendix.

NOTE: the SB-912-074 / SB-914-056 certified bulletin contains an appendix with a complete list of affected carburetor serial numbers. The appendix contains an additional 137 pages, so please consider this before printing a paper copy!
